Always start with the top brick first.

When the seasoned brick layer looks at a pile of bricks required to do the job, he does not concentrate on the whole pile.  He concentrates on the top brick only because he knows the job, no matter how big, starts with that first brick.

That is the way we should look at any task we have to accomplish--What needs to be done first. In other words, concentrate on starting  with the top brick first.

I tried putting the top brick in place first and it fell to the ground...

Probably needed to lay a good foundation.
