Nope... it needs little booties <lol>.
I don't think it's a good idea to put the three-piece thermal cover on when the grill is warm. I plan on leaving it on all the time, not just in the winter.

I think that is what i would do as well...might as well save on pellets during the summer months as well.

I also have the regular cover for it but I'm thinking the thermal blanket all the time... it can't hurt.
