Beef Rib Roast in SRG???
« Reply #-1 on: January 31, 2015, 09:49:39 PM »
I was given a 4.5 pound prime rib and was thinking of putting it in the SRG for tomorrows game.  Any suggestions?

Roast it on high for ~30 minutes to sear the outside then lower the heat to about 250F and cook to desired IT, 120-125 is rare.  I've done mine in a BEESR, the SRG may cook a little different, I'm sure Tommy will have more detailed advice for an SRG cook.

Going in now... My injection needle busted  so I rubbed the cajun sauce on top.  May be interesting... Figuring 1.5-2 hrs on low.

LVC hit the nail on the head, high setting for 30 mins or so to get the outside going good then drop to low till done.   Now I have to carry mine passed 150 because of Kimmie :(  But if it were for me 130 would be max temp

Put it in on high and got a call to pick up my car.  40 minutes later and it is done.  135-150 degrees.

Things go fast in an SRG, looks good.  Wonder if going low first then cranking to high would be better?

Ribs were overdone.  Sadness...  Roast was amazing! Enough leftovers for several sammies.

Tommy I'm thinking that may work too.  That's similar to a sous vide cook where I slow cook in the hot tub first and then sear it in the BEESR.

Second attempt at this.  After 30 minutes on low it is almost to medium.  Now on high to finish off and then FTC until the in-laws arrive!
