Convection oven smoking??

I know. It's not smart to start fires in your oven. However, I cant help but wonder. Has anyone tried a small amount of pellets smoldering in a convection oven? I have a nice true convection oven that seems to contain all the smoke inside when I'm finishing a seared steak.  I dont mind the smell of wood smoke and of course would run the hood as I keep an eye on it.  Just a thought as an alternative to my smoker as it's getting below 0 in MN.

I know it sounds ridiculous. Common sense alarms going off. But....haha. How hot could a small amount of pellets sitting on a clean baking sheet away from the food really get. Considering an oven is built to withstand a self cleaning mode that contains 800+ degree heat. ( Says the guy explaining this to his wife as the house burns down.)

When Kerry isnt home I put my gas grill grates in the dishwasher with Cascade 16X pods...  That worked fine... Your pellets should not be a problem.  I mean it's sort of the same thing right?  In home appliances and all....
Kidding aside, Amazon has indoor smoker bags...

if the pellet thing fails.
