I finally pulled the trigger on a Pit Barrel Cooker and it will be delivered on Friday. After reading all the positive reviews on it I couldn't resist. I've been using an small electric smoker for years so definitely looking forward to the upgrade. I was looking at the Big Green Egg for a while but couldn't get the funds together for it and I couldn't beat the price of the Pit Barrel. Hoping to have some food pics up by the weekend.

Congrats. Looking forward to some pics.

Welcome...Now you will be able to cook some real bbq at home. Just be sure to look at Noah's videos and go by his instructions for the first few cooks. Will be waiting on some pictures.

I have had my PBC for 4 years now and I still use Noahs videos......congrats on a great power smoker.
-
These are just a couple pics from my electric smoker, I'm dying to taste the flavor difference with the PBC.

I was in the same boat as you. I really wanted a BGE, but couldn't justify the purchase price. I did research and stumbled upon the PBC, purchased one, and have never looked back. Best investment I may have ever made for the home.
I can't speak for an electric smoker...not sure i've ever had anything from it before. But PBC ribs, whole chickens, turkeys, brisket, chicken wings, and chicken breasts....they are all amazing on the PBC. Follow the instructions from Noah for your first few cooks. He suggests a tri-tip for your first cook...at least 2 years ago when I contacted him that is what he suggested.
Good luck. Looking forward to many amazing pics of your cooks on the PBC.

Well my cooker is "out for delivery" :P
This is the smoker I've been using for the last few years, it's small but it served it's purpose for the time I had it. Followed by some other cooks I've done...smoked beer can chicken, prime rib and pulled pork :)

lol the electric is already in the trash. It's beyond worn out. The PBC is built like a tank. I went and bought a pile of meat, spare ribs, baby backs, beef ribs, halved chickens and steaks. It's too late to do the longer cooks so I just fired it up and threw on a NY Strip :)
-
well my first cook on the PBC, NY Strip and used the beef and game rub that came with the cooker. Cooked it lid off after about 20 minutes after lighting. 7.30 minutes each side. It's a little more done than I like my steaks, I'm more medium rare but holy crap it was good! What a difference over my electric grill and even a gas grill. Sorry for huge pics I forgot to size them down

Looks real good to me!
Wait until you try cooking a whole chicken...

I bought a whole chicken that the butcher had split in half already, that will be coming up soon :)
-
well here's my first shot at ribs and wow what a difference over my electric smoker! There is no comparison in taste, definitely these are the best ribs I've made. I need to adjust my timing a little bit as they were a little too tender for my liking but that's all part of the learning process, whew these were good

Great looking Ribs. I struggled between the PBC and the PG24LTD (Pellet pooper) and ended up pulling trigger on the PG24.
-
These were baby backs, I cooked them for 3.5 hours, sauced and put them back on for 15. I normally do St. Louis ribs and I have to giant slabs in the freezer at the moment. If I do baby backs I'll probably sauce them at 3 hours and check the tenderness then
-
Those are some beautiful looking bones
-
I used my sauce recipe that I posted in the sauce forum and the Beef and Game rub that came with the cooker. I'll probably go back to my rib rub as the other was a little too salty.
-
Nice looking ribs there....the PBC does take some getting use to.
-
Very nice
-
It looks to me like you know how to use your new smoker!!! Looks good !!! Don
