Kingsford competition for PBC

Have any of you tried  Kingsford competition briquettes when using your PBC? I'd like to know if it's recommended or not? I know the comp version burn hotter than the regular blue bag.

I don't see why not. They are the same with some built-in ridges that create a little more surface area than the standard ones. I plan on buying a few bags from Costco and will monitor temps in my PBC when I use them.

I have used it, but I always end up back on the blue because of price.  No enough difference in burn or flavor (if any) in my opinion.

I tried the Kingsford Hickory last week. You could see the hickory chips in the briquettes. But - there was not discernible taste difference. I was a little disappointed, in that I thought there would be a hint 'o hard wood taste....

But - the PBC STILL made the best chicken I have ever tasted. Anywhere in the world. Period.

Tee I think the charcoal burns too hot for the hickory to smoke when it is embedded into the charcoal. Sounds like more of a gimmick to me. Just lay a chunk of wood on the coals next time.

Kora- You can use competition Kingsford although it will burn hotter and faster. You will just have to monitor it. Let us know how it goes. Thanks, Amber

Thanks guys for all the input. I frequent Costco, so I'm going to be picking up some bags like Muebe had mentioned. Now that daylight savings time is back I'll be trying to que on a regular basis.
