Title: No More Store Bought Burgers or Sausage
Post by: HighOnSmoke on April 20, 2015, 02:11:43 PM
Thanks to TentHunter (Cliff) I am now "hooked" on making my own various sausages.  ;) I haven't ventured
as far as getting a sausage stuffer, etc, but I am headed that way!  8) What I found out the other day when I ground
up an 8 pound pork butt for sausage is that my wife's Kitchenaid Mixer attachment will work, but after 8 pounds of raw
meat going through it the mixer was starting to heat up. Since I don't want to be in the doghouse I decided to just
buy a meat grinder for burgers, sausage and whatever. After numerous hours of research and talking with a few other
members of this board I decided on buying the STX MegaForce 3000 (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005F55EUQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Air cooled meat grinder. Reviews all over the internet
and Amazon were outstanding. I believe I saw a photo posted by Old Dave and he has either the same one or one similar.

Anyway I ground up a couple of chuck roasts for burgers to test it out.  5 plus pounds of meat, sent through the grinder
twice, and no problems whatsoever.
(http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m550/Michael_Coffman/STX%20Meat%20Grinder/MLC_9226_zps9qu5omsa.jpg) (http://s1131.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Coffman/media/STX%20Meat%20Grinder/MLC_9226_zps9qu5omsa.jpg.html)

It's a size 12, comes with 3 cutting blades, 3 grinding plates, 3 sausage tubes and a Kubbe attachment. The parts are 100% cast aluminum.
They need to be hand washed and dried right away which is no big deal. The whole thing weighs about 12 pounds.  Oh, did I mention that
there is a 3 year 100% warranty on this? All you have to do is register your grinder on their web site.

Now on to researching sausage stuffers, etc.  8) ;)

Good for you!

I'm starting smaller - using my KA (it is mine, so if I burn it out it is on me...  ;) ;D) Baby steps. but I appreciate your instructions, experience and inspiration along wit the other folks that are grinding their own meats - this is how I am learning.

Thank you!

Congrats Mike on your newest toy! I'm sure that you will be putting out some fine sausage and burgers from now on!
I picked up the same grinder this past Fall and it does everything asked of it.

Bingo,we have a couple older Kitchenaids with the meat grinder and they handle all my needs,Ive 'heard' the newer models arent as robust,FWIW. But the point is,grinding your own burger I have done now I guess its decades.

The safety aspect(meat from one animal, vrs a tub made from 100's),plus price, makes your own burger unmatchable by store bought.

Congrats,as Cliff says, welcome to the dark side, you will never go back.
