Title: New mod for the Grill2Go grill
Post by: TMB on March 14, 2013, 09:51:08 PM
After 1 year of owning this fine grill one thig has really got my goat  ???  >:( ???

If you close the lid to fast the damn thing will kill the flame, then you got a real problem with gas build up  :o :o

So after a few days of looking to find the right parts I got to add the top vent needed to keep the pressure down so the flame wont blow out  ;)

I love Tommy's mods. But I am also the guy that looks for the simple solution. I've had the same problem and found that flipping the little latch to keep the lid from closing completely prevents a flame out. Actually, I don't have a cool tool to cut the lid...

And then...there is always the no fabrication method.... ;D But that's no fun David! :D

Mike did you notice Tommy made a square? Well the Patent Pending TendaRub Brush Applicator that comes with a case of Patent Pending TendaRub just happens to fit through that hole!

Now you can apply this amazing tenderizer on your ribs without lifting a lid!

See Tommy you accidentally invented a Patent Pending TendaRub Application Opening.... Genius! ;)

With all the mods guys do here on various cooker you have to wonder why the manufacturers:

a) didn't think of it when they designed the cooker and

b) don't incorporate them into the latest production models.

I hope those boys over at marketing are looking at your mods. I cooked on one at a friends party, was very impressed with the high searing temps, but when I closed the lid.....party over!
Never should have gone into production with that design. Air + Fuel is pretty basic. Tommy is great at making grills work better, but why put the tailgators and grill packers that stuff in there RV's
to a very frustrating cook.

I am going to give all of you a peer into what makes Tommy tick:

His Dad was an engineer at NASA - and Tommy is a highly specialized auto technician that only works on Honda transmissions.
So - there is a genetic predisposition he has to make anything work better than it did originally. It is like something he just can't stop. Kind of like a very positive form of OCD. ;D

So while you and I typically look at our grills and are thankful when they work - are mad when they don't - Tommy looks at them  as to how they work and then how to make them work better

I can tell you that there are some things that he did to Charbroil products that just mysteriously started appearing as "product up-dates" ;)

Down South we have a term "bless his heart, that boy just ain't right".  It is not neccessarily a bad thing, just means they are different, can even be a  badge of honor.

From day one Barry knew I was different  :o ??? :o  But that didn't stop him from letting me have fun with these cookers.  Even the big wigs at CharBroil knew I was doing weird stuff to their gills and cookers but they would just shake the heads and say "He is at it again"  :D :D     When I was told of the BEESR coming out I was sent a proto type to play with but was told 'DO NOT MODIFIE"  Which I said who me?  ;D

Yes I'm nuts and I ain't right either, but I am having fun so that's all I gonna say about that :) ;)

Next grill for mods.........  The BEESR!  stay tuned ;)

Tommy, did this mod actually work?  I opened up the vents on the back of the lid about 50% by just bending them open more.  I peeled some of the red paint, but who cares about that.  Anyway, increasing the back vents openings did nothing.

Also, I've noticed that the fire will go out after the lid has been down for some time, say, 15-20 minutes, so just closing the lid isn't the only thing that causes the flame to go out.

CB has not been helpful at all and they keep trying to blame the tank or the hose, both of which have been replaced multiple times.
