Title: STOK drum charcoal grill
Post by: smokeasaurus on September 01, 2013, 04:30:08 PM
A buddy of mine called me from Target "Dude, they got an orange Weber kettle here at Target for 129.99" I grabbed my wallet and I am down the road to Target.

Well, it was not a Weber, it was a model by STOK that is a Weber kettle copy-cat. But after giving the grill the hairy eye-ball, this is not a bad thing.

The grill has a cast iron cooking grate with a removable center section where you can add a griddle or pizza stone. It also has its own charcoal starting basket that sits in the center of the grill. You set a lighter starter cube on the charcoal grate and your coals light in its own basket. You then use this tool to lift it out and your coals are settin on the charcoal grate. Now I get to thinking, you could leave this basket in place and "Circle the wagons: for a nice hot indirect cook for chicken pcs or even burgers.

The Target Associate whispered in my ear and said "If you buy it on-line, you don't pay tax"

I went home and used my Red card from Target and got an additional 5% off, free shipping and no sales tax...Score!!

So my Kingsford charcoal was almost as costly as this grill and the Old Country from Academy.....I saved a boat load of money buying them on=line...I just gotta wait a week or two for them to get here.......

Here is the link to STOK, you can even download the owners manual for a better description of the grill if you are interested...

Nice new grill Smoke!

I dig the interchangeable grill inserts. They also have a gas grill with that same grill design.

Good for you, Smoke! I've looked at this one and thought if my Weber explodes one day, this would be a viable option. I'd also consider the portable STOK when my G2G bites the dust.

BTW if anyone else is looking to buy on line - Target is $20 less than Cabellas.

Nice looking grill. I'm in the market for a grill to do hot and fast. This might be the one.

LA, it seems pretty stout. They had a Weber Silver there and I kinda kicked the tires on both and could not honestly say the Weber was better build quality wise. I think being covered and being kept clean, it should last a spell. The off-set will do most of the heavy lifting, the grill will be for steaks and dogs and burgers. I never would have thought that a load of charcoal would cost almost as much as an off-set and a kettle style grill......

A load for you is heavier than the charcoal most of us would burn in a decade!

Isn't that the same grill (or at least a cousin) of that aborted yard sale transaction?

That is true LA. I had to start from scratch and make sure I have enough to get through Memorial Day 2014

Yup. STOK seems to be a popular brand carried by Target. The yard sale version was a gasser, if my memory serves me right.

Hey, I was thinking. Since this grill is loaded with features, is Weber Kettle like, is affordable...........

I think me and Smooch have another product review in us.....

Would you like us to do a product review on the STOK drum charcoal grill?

I, too, was left wondering what happened to the great review I was following a few weeks ago.

Seems like it should have been posted by now...

Just sayin'...

I don't think there is a bbq out there that has been copied as much as the Weber Kettle. The Weber kettle has been in Americas back yards since 1952.

If you ask a kid to draw a picture of a bbq grill, more often than not, they will draw the kettle shape. It is the classic American BBQ Grill.

Hey Sparky, y'all bring Antonio and I will bring Big Freddie  :D :D

Besides, you are our resident Weber expert, don't wanna steal your thunder Bro..... ;) ;)

That is so true. And if you look at the ceramic technology available today, look at the shape. I think that if Weber put a double wall on their kettle and the lid, they could give the ceramic grills a run for their money. And they could probably send it to market for hundred less.

Interesting thought.

Wow ... Stok is made by the same company that makes Ryobi tools.  If Ryobi starts making beer then they can pretty much control my backyard ...

Ryobi does make some great power tools.

But that same argument can be made for LG. Great televisions but terrible refrigerators. Same with Samsung. Avoid their fridges also ???
