Title: Smoochy and some porters went "Way Out West!!!
Post by: smokeasaurus on May 06, 2012, 08:13:55 PM
This is my last weekend of using the fireplace..the re-modified Quality Grill will be delivered tomorrow so what better way to end it  with some porterhouse steaks.

Smoochy, what seasoning should we use today:

Ah, T's "Way Out West" Trail Dust...good call my little green amigo!!

When I first opened the jar I thought T had mislabeled the jar because the rub looks more like an herbal chicken rub!!

But I threw all caution to the wind and layed it on heavy ( heck, I trust T!! )  8)

The rub is dust free and really sticks to the meat!!

Got em over a searing hot bed of Kingsford....what else  ;D

So, how was it....I love steak sauce and I figured I would eat half the steak to get a good idea if I liked the Way Out West and then throw steak sauce on the other half.........

Well...that didn't happen!! Didn't want the steak sauce covering up the fine fresh flavor which in no way covered up the taste of the steak....it just enhanced the flavor. It seems all steak rubs are heavy in garlic and pepper and this is just the opposite. It has a nice garden fresh flavor that married perfect with the steak.  I think my next tri-tip is getting some of this!!

Come to think of it:  Way Out West stands for   WOW!!!!!!  This is good stuff!! Between Phils most excellent "Awake a Steak" and this excellent rub..my red beef days are looking alot brighter!!!!!  ;D

It is a very different group of aromas and flavors from what you normally expect - huh smoke? Really glad you like it! Put some on your baked potato, and - BTW it is a great chicken rub too - especially if you are going to grill, rotisserie it or cook it in a Big Easy/SRG.

By sniffin and tastin your rubs when I first got them...they seem to me that they could be more all-purpose than just being locked in on specific types of meat!!

You are 100% CORRECT SMOKE!

The problem is that sometimes, folks want a sense of direction on what to use for what meat. Otherwise said - a lot of people are lack of imagination - or they are just used to "this flavor goes with that"...and that is o.k. - but it is also very limiting for them.

It is a big world - with a LOT of wonderful aromas and tastes to enjoy. But, we all get into a "comfort zone" ( READ: RUT ;D ) from time to time.

Look for future labeling changes that will help folks look outside the box a little more when using these products.

Even though I love my Awake-a-Steak, I am anxious to try this new rub by T.  Rotating the seasonings keeps the pallet happy.  Like when you were single and had several girl friends...HUH!  Phil
