Title: The triumphant return of the Quality Grill
Post by: smokeasaurus on May 07, 2012, 03:10:19 PM
Finally.... :o
The grill needed a new lid so I had dual smokestacks and dual thermos put on it.
Stainless Steel covers for the side shelves and the handle.
Had two extra air intakes put in with the new split cooking grill  36/12 and new reflector plates.
This way I can smoke indirect from either side or have coals on both sides for broasting and of course crank em all open and get my grill on.
I am going to be sending all my findings over to Quality Grill because Mark might incorporate some of these mods to his "Stock" models to make them more versatile..................

Sounds like you got plenty of air control now Smoke. And having the split grill for indirect is a must ;)

Smoke, when you sell this grill ( and eventually you'll want something else) sell it to someone who will appreciate & care for it!

It is basically a big ole grill  24 x 48  cooking grate.  I had the grate split so I can cook indirect in it as well. When I first had it, it only had one air vent in the center and I had a hot spot in the center and the coals would die out if placed on the far sides. Now with the added air vents this baby can do it all.....

It is a real good cooker Pam. I had this unit late last year and loaned it out and it got damaged while it was out on loan. So it went back to the Mfg and that was my chance to custom it out....will keep you posted......

In fact....I got a -4- hour burn at 325 degrees yesterday on a charcoal basket of Kingsford. I am gonna weigh the basket tonight to see just how much is in there...I am guessing 3-4 lbs so 1lb an hour is not bad. The basket was set dead center and both thermos ran the same..tonight a more indirect kind of test with the coals on the right side and tomorrow with the coals on the left and then some coals on the left and right(should be the split chicken set-up)..........

Heck yeah smoke!

So what do you think of your super charged grill now? Did you test any of the air control before you grilled them?

I had the -3- air vents about 1/2 open and she was running around 400. I opened them all up and the coals just took off!!

So I can either slo grill or crank it up to sear.

Lets see what happens tomorrow when I go indirect............
