Wings with the Vortex
« Reply #-1 on: August 02, 2014, 07:28:39 PM »
I have seen the Vortex advertised on Thunderdome BBQ and I also saw a cook by Marty Owens
where he used it. It is said to have several uses, indirect, direct, both indirect and direct together
and infrared. So I decided to pick one up and see how I liked it. First cook with the Vortex will be
wings.

Half of the wings were seasoned with Lambert’s Sweet Rub O’Mine and the other half with Jallelujah
Bacon rub.

The Vortex was loaded with KBB with one chunk of cherry wood on top of the grates.

Wings were put on the grill.

Wings are done!

Plated with left over iron skillet potatoes, green beans and coleslaw.

Wings were great! Juicy, tender with almost crispy skin. I believe they would have been crispier if I
hadn’t of closed off the bottom vent as much as I did. One thing I really liked was I did not have to
flip the wings to get them finished. Overall a real tasty Saturday evening dinner.

I wonder how they compare to wings on the PBC?

I don't know how they compare with the PBC since I don't own one...YET.. 8) I ordered the Vortex from
Mad Hunky Meats. Shipping is quite high but it seems it is the only place that is selling it at this time. I ordered it
Thursday and got it today..

I am not sure either. Still am reading the user manual. I will try to upload it here so you can read it.
Actually here is the link at Mad Hunky where I bought it and it has a link to the user manual.

Nice looking plate of food.  Wings is one of my favorites.  I always cook mine on the Weber, never tried them on my PBC.  That device would be great for searing steaks, i dare you to try it  :P.

Oh I definitely liked the Jallejulah rub! My wife is not so spice oriented but she did eat one and said it was
good.  ;)
