« Reply #-1 on: May 18, 2015, 07:35:06 PM »
ok folks of the pellet world, I'm in need of some hard core info on smoking a pork butt so I can look like a billy badass at 1my bbq this weekend for the holiday. lol planning to cook a 5-6 lb pork butt and going to use basic methods to season- yellow mustard, and either fine swine and bovine or super pig by Savor Spices. Any info or cook methods are greatly appreciated. Is it best to foil or not to foil and at what IT should I foil the butt at? Thanks in advance for any tips or methods :P

Slather the pork butt in molasses and then apply your favorite rub.

Smoke it at 225F until the internal temperature reaches 140F

Then crank up the temp to 275F until the until temp reaches 195F

Remove and wrap in foil then let it cool for several hours in a cooler with a towel covering it.

Should pull real easily, have outstanding bark, and taste delicious.

I did my very first butt on a little Walmart charcoal grill, tasted great but I know something was wrong. Either it didn't rest long enough or maybe the bad swings in temps. Either way it tatsed good. Had it settled up half on top other half below. Going to modify that cooker to have a vent on the other side as well.
