Brat burgers and calico beans
Sep 20 2015
I haven’t cooked much the past week. Last week-end I made a meatloaf and some pulled chicken to eat during the week. I knew I would be busy getting ready for my wife’s 55th class reunion. One of her classmates has a nice home on Lake St. Marys and has a big party the night before the reunion. He and his wife had done all the cooking in the past but this year they just did the meats and everyone brought side dishes.
I made a batch of tailfeathers Calico beans, made my smoked Cajun crackers, and two cheese plates. The Cajun crackers were a hit and most of the beans were gone. Thanks for the bean recipe tailfeathers; they were good and a lot less sugar than my recipe.
They have their reunion every 5 years and one highlight has been a classmate that lives in Florida has usually brought enough Dom Perignon Champaign for all to have a toast. Most of the class attends the night before party.
Their reunion dinner was held at the Eagles and Sandman catered it with broasted chicken, lasagna, green beans and dinner rolls. There were a relish and fruit tray and desserts. We had a cash bar and a great evening with 60’s music and a slide show of the older reunions.
We had some of the Calico beans to eat and I bought some Johnsonville brat patties to have with them. I did the brat patties on my Traeger at 300 deg. grill level on grill grates 12 minutes each side and added cheese to one for the wife. I had seasoned mine with Blues Hog Rub and I had mustard and a slice of onion on my sandwich. My wife had mustard and pickle on hers. They were good with the beans.
