Sandman's First KBQ Cook
« Reply #-1 on: October 14, 2015, 02:32:30 PM »
Oct 14 2015

Yesterday I was up to Brad’s (Sandman) carry out and he said he was going to try his new KBQ for the first time. I was anxious to see it in action.

I was out running when he opened at 10:30 so stopped to see and he had just fired it up. He asked where my camera was. I said I would come back at 1:00; he said that will be a good time and he should have some chicken on smoking.

I went back and took these pics of him out behind his carry out. His chicken was getting a nice color to it. I like that smoker and wished I were younger and I would have one. He said he would let me know how the chicken was. I said I suppose you want me to post the pics for you! So here they are and I hope he will come in a follow up and post some pics of the finished chicken and let all now how it went.

They had some beef enchiladas over rice for the daily lunch special and had some left so I got two for the wife and I’s supper. Here is a pic of it too and one would have been enough, we will get two meals from this. It was $9.95 for the two!

The chicken turned out pretty good. It had probably the best smoke flavor I have ever had off a smoker.  The skin was rubbery but it's not what I would  call a chicken cooker. A few pics.

What temp did you run, Sandman? I get the best chicken off my KBQ. Crispy skin as well.
Try placing the chicken pieces on the grate and the foil pan on the bottom of the cooker for better circulation around the chicken.

Cut the logs in half so they lay flat in the firebox.
That way you'll have a tight hot bed of coals every time.

Look at that flame going sideways, that's the "dirty smoke option". LOL, dirty smoke on KBQ is cleaner that Johnny Trigg's best smoke.

I figured you did coz I looked at your fire box and the log is sitting high off the coal grate. So when the fan engages, it's pulling cold air as well through the empty space.

Great looking cooker.  The food, now that is another story.  Simply fantastic looking!!  My wife will kill me if I start talking about another cooker.  Oh well, you only live once.
