de buyer in house..HELP please
« Reply #-1 on: January 07, 2016, 11:25:46 AM »
I got my 3 de buyer skillets in the house today..when I washed them with hot water, I noticed a like scuff mark on the 12" pan. Is this going to hurt anything or should I send it back? I know I won't get a replacement because they are out of them and NO RETURNS. Think it will be ok??  not very deep, definately a dent tho, but I noticed it immediately.  Suggestions?  Thanks  enclosed isa couple of pics..☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Without seeing it in person, hard to say... but I have four thoughts:

1) Call Chef's, explain the problem and see if they can help. If the CSR gives the stock answer - "All sales are final" - ask to have the issue escalated. I just did this on a shipping issue and it was solved to my satisfaction almost immediately. Or jump that and try this person - Deborah Hedrick | Customer Service Specialist | CHEFS® | An Affiliate of ¤Target Corporation® | 5070 Centennial Blvd. | Colorado Springs, CO 80919

2) Contact DeBuyer - talk with their customer service folks, maybe they can help. http://www.debuyer.com/en

3) Contact Ahron - africanmeat on this site - he is a magician with metal and may be able to suggest a way to salvage it.

4) Go ahead, season and try it.

Good luck!

Well at least you got something in the mail. I haven't seen anything.

Hard to tell from the pics what the issue is.

Pam,
Do check with de Buyer.  I had one of their double boilers that I accidentally broke the sight glass on it, rendering it unusable.  De Buyer sent me a new one, no questions asked from their Atlanta warehouse.  Worth a try.

I agree with this option as well prior to returning to CHEF'S for a refund. I have never dealt with de Buyer directly, but always believe in trying that before giving up.

Art.Thanks,  they are saying its Chef's problem. They also say the pan is defective. It's not in that bad of a shape and I want it..I have Ahron checking into it for me. I'm thinking it can be polished out, just gotta find someone who can do it. That might be the tricky part. Wonder what that would do to the finish, because there is no finish on it, just the beeswax to protect it from rusting and that has to come off.  just thinking.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

If you plan on keeping it, use potato peels in water to remove the wax.  It may not be too bad once it gets seasoned.

When I got my pan I had someone help with the seasoning and they screwed it up badly. I ended up taking a wire brush on the end of my drill and scoured all the finish off inside the pan. Then I washed it really well with soap and water 3 times. I dried it on the stovetop and then started the coconut oil seasoning. I seasoned it 4 times and it is perfect. I can cook a beautiful crispy edge fried egg with no sticking. I always warm it up on the stove after I wash it with water to dry it completely and apply a very fine amount of coco oil before I put it away. if it was me I would keep it and season it well. It will darken over time and probably not be noticeable.

Hi Pam .
It is not a big problem if it is no to deep . my advice is to find a collision repair centre that got a Rotary sander (most of them will have it ) and with 600 grit and 1200 grit water paper to polish the scratches out .

If not you can get a rubbing block and the 600 +1200  grit water paper (for metal )  from any hardware stores . put water (1/8 cup ) in the pan and use the block with the 600 to sand  it out .

now you must do it again with 1200 grit for the final polish .

it sound more difficult than it is . you can do it .
good luck .

PS do it in circular motion on the hall pan so it will stay the same thickness and not Curve in over the scratch .
