Smoked Brats w/Kraut and Potato Salad
« Reply #-1 on: January 24, 2016, 12:28:36 AM »
Jan 23 2016

I was hungry for some brats and I had some of my homemade sauerkraut for on them. It was sunny and 28 deg. today so I did them on my smoker. I had some fresh brats from my butcher. He just happened to have some of his standard brats and some cheese brats in the counter. I got 3 of each; my wife likes the cheese brats but I would rather have his standard brats.

Our daughter took the grandson out to eat tonight and to see Star Wars so there were just the wife and me for supper. I made a batch of potato salad after lunch from a new recipe I wanted to try.

I did the brats on my Traeger, 200 deg. for half hour, 260 deg. for a half hour and 290 deg. a half hour. I caramelized onions for the brats too. I had a plain brat with mustard and kraut and a cheese brat with mustard and onions.  My wife just had one cheese brat with kraut and onions. She liked the potato salad and I thought it was pretty good too.

Don Potato salad rcipe is almost the same as mine..my grandmas recipe, only difference is I use my pressure cooker with same amount of potatoes and eggs for 5 minutes. I find that when potatoes are warmish they accept the sauce a lot more..I love the brats too...☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Looks GOOD!  Wife got sick from my brats the night before when we had our third and last child.    She won't go near them now, SO, I do them and fix her a hamburger (thin and cooked absolutely to death--dry, dry, dry!)  I agree on putting the fixins on the potatoes while they are still warm.     Don't particularly like eggs in my potato salad, but wont turn down a good one just cause it has eggs in it.
