Beer Can Chicken
« Reply #-1 on: October 28, 2016, 08:04:31 PM »
Hadn't fired the Weber in a quite a while and was looking to try out one of the new Big Dicks rubs i recently got.
I decided a beer can chicken with the Margarita Rub,  it had come in the four pack and i didnt know what to use it on.
Turned out to be pretty tasty!

Love beer can chicken and yours looks real nice!  A tip...shove a small onion in the top hole of the bird. You'll get more steaming action from inside out that way.

Also pre-heat the beer in a sauce pan. Helps if the liquid is already heated for more even cooking and better steaming.

Chicken looks outstanding!

That looks very good.  I haven't used any of my Weber's in awhile but I just ordered the Drip N griddle pan from the makers of the Slow N Sear to try out with my Slow N Sear that I have not used yet and beer can chicken was what I was planning on making.

Dave it is a beautiful bird! And I hope you can feel my intent/concern for everyone's health....PLEASE folks -stop using real beer cans to cook your bird on. There are stainless devices that you can pour your beer into - and some even have a saucer or bowl like are to catch he drippings. ;)

The reason is pretty simple: You wouldn't spray paint a skillet, then cook your bacon and eggs in it. The low grade aluminum beer can is not designed to use as a cooking utensil - nor are the inks used as the labeling of the beer can. The temperature at which some of the chemicals in the ink become volatiles, and may aerosolize into the meat. They are not tolerant of high enough heat to withstand the rigors of cooking. Just want everyone to stay healthy and happy! ;D
