Kettle rotessorie
« Reply #-1 on: November 20, 2016, 09:08:07 AM »
Does anyone have a rotessorie for their kettle?

I am looking into ordering one. Hoping to cook a turkey on it next week.
I found one on Amazon that looks pretty good. It's the newest Onlyfire model.
I don't have experience with either the rotessorie or "Onlyfire" .

Old Dave is a "rolling food on a stick" guy.... ;D You may want to pick his brain about them. I think he has even adapted some from other brands/intended fit.

I think I'll get me a tee shirt that says "Roliing food on a stick" with a stick man by a campfire with a rotessorie over it .  :)

This past Spring because of a tip from Old Dave, I bought a  18.5" Onlyfire rotisserie setup for my kettle and it works on my PBC as well.

I have rotisserie setups for both the 22-1/2 and the 181/2" Weber kettles and love them.

As far as I know, the Amazon units are usually the most least expensive kits out there.

These less expensive kits do not fit as well as the Weber kits especially on the Weber Performer but I think they are still a great way to get into rotisserie cooking. The rings will leak some air around the edges but that doesn't seem to hurt the cooking. Heck, if you plan to reuse some of your charcoal on the next cook, just remove the ring and put the lid on and the fire will go out.

The newer Stainless Steel Onlyfire (2290) is supposed to fit the Weber Performer and the regular kettles much better than the older units. Be careful here as there are two of these Stainless Steel kits and only one is the newer version.

This is the upgraded version:  https://www.amazon.com/Onlyfire-Universal-Stainless-Charcoal-Rotisserie/dp/B01H19QSOY/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1479651644&sr=8-13&keywords=onlyfire+rotisserie

Of course, if you want the best, Cajun Bandit is the way to go.

And the very cheapest kit would be the this one at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Hongso-CGR001-Rotisserie-Masterbuilt-Kingsford/dp/B0192SX2VE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479652970&sr=8-1&keywords=hongso+rotisserie

Be sure to read the reviews at Amazon if there available.

Need anything else, let me know.

I also have both rotisseries for the 18 and 22 kettles.  Both are from cajun bandit.  I highly recommend them.  I have cooked ribs, butts, chuckles, wholes chickens, pork roasts, prime rib roast.  All are great when you spin them.

I have a rotisserie for my Weber 22.  Can't remember what brand I bought.  I can barely remember what it looks like.  My son and his wife "borrowed" it a while back.  I may need to get another one.

I ordered the new improved Onlyfire. It fit the budget I wanted to be in so hopefully it will do the trick.  I bought two turkeys today so one should be spinning on Thursday!

My rotessorie has arrived and is assembled. It seems to fit the grill very well.
I have some novex I can add if it leaks to much but I don't think it will.
Tomorrow will start early here! Lots to do by noon....

Well I did two turkeys this year. I post the other on a separate subject as I cooked it in the La Caja China.  This rotisserie is awesome.  It could use a bigger motor but what couldn't?
I set the weber up with coals in both baskets and a pan of water in the middle.
I brined the turkey overnight, dried it off and seasoned the outside just before putting it on the grill.
The turkey went on at 9AM and came off about 11:45 at 172 degrees.  I  added coals about 20 minutes before it was done but would have been OK if I hadn't.
I also used the Tip Top Temp which did a great job of holding the grill between 380 and 400.

This is such a great setup I may buy another kettle grill just to keep the Rotisserie on all the time.
The Onlyfire did really well and I have now added Nomex to the kettle lid to create a better seal. Something I had been planning anyway.

The turkey and the rotisserie kit looks great. Now that you are in the spinning business, a good place to get parts for this hobby is at: http://www.onegrill.com

They do have some bigger motors that go up to a 50 pound load.

I think the only problem was that I didn't properly balance the load. As it cooked and lost some weight the breast became the heaviest part. Still it did a great job.
Thanks for the link Dave I will check it out.
I always wanted to put a rotessorie in my tank and now I do even more...
