Interesting new grill
« Reply #-1 on: April 09, 2018, 10:34:25 AM »
Smoking Guns Jerky company is coming out with their own pellet grill.  Looks good but reminds me of other grills already out there so not sure if it's any improvement over the competition.

Looks to be around the $2,000.00 price range with shipping.  Lotta grills out there so not sure what they are thinkg?

They saw the market explode in 2016 with pellet grills and wanted to cash in probably.  But its a Kickstarter, so they can collect revenue before producing.  Is having a downdraft exhaust a good feature?

I'm still waiting over 3 years now for my Coolest Cooler.  >:(

It looks darn near a Blaz'n works with a few defferences.  It might be a nice one but for the money i'd buy a MAK or a RT700 RecTec long before I'd payout that much for a NEW grill that has not been out yet.

Are the others 100% double wall insulated?  I actually like a lot of what I saw in their specs for the new unit.

I hope their distribution chain spreads as I would love to see their jerky marinade locally so I don't have to pay $35 to have it shipped.

I wish them well. But at that price point I would stick with a proven system

They were a Blaz'n Distributor in May of 2015:  http://strictly-business.com/news/business/smoking-gun-jerky-named-blazn-grill-works-authorized-dealer-in-lincoln-nebraska/

Fast forward one year and they launch their brand/design.  They've had this grill in beta for a while ... it looks like they got a close look at the Blaz'n Grand Slam and built a replica; the specs are identical except for the stack placement and burnpot cleanout location.  Based on the Kickstarter video, I have no idea how the counterweight isn't supposed to smack into that smokestack.  They wedded the Blaz'n design with the hyperbole of a RecTec ad, in my opinion.

Still, credit where credit is due ... the one thing they included that I wish Blaz'n had is the pellet dump feature.

Downdraft exhausts help keep smoke and heat at cooking grate level. They also help even temperatures across the entire surface. Traegers and Green Mountains really work well with these installed.

A MAK or a Memphis will not need a downdraft exhaust since they are built so darn near perfectly.

Of note.....

The controller that is "custom built"...is made by the same company that makes them Rec Tec, Louisiana, kandothers....They may have dome some custom programming, and they added a custom front panel. But, if you look at a Rec Tec controller, or Louisiana, and look at this controller you will see what I mean. The exact layout  for the controls, etc....

My thoughts but I don't have 2k to drop on a grill.  Reason I went with a RecTec, price was at the top of what Kimmie would be ok with.

Now, that being said I am slowly working her torward me getting one

You should be able to sell your Rec Tec and get 1/2 or better of your purchase price.

Right now I'm not looking to sell my RT680.  As soon as I can get the lid repainted and a seal on it I'm good for awhile..

Plus, if you add all my co-pays from my last few surgeries I'm in the hole for what a MAK gen 2 cost so no way will Kimmie agree to me getting one right now :( :(

But I hope by next year late Aug or Sept I will see about getting a Mak Gen 1 (2 is way out of my range )

Some nice ideas there..like the multiple upper tray locations...pellet dump feature and ceramic lighter is good. That grease tray looks awful small though (for comparison I have three 9x11 drip pans on the Memphis Elite). Competition is always good though and the price seems quite fair
