New SS Trough's

My Trough’s for the Red have rusted out.

I called Charbroil CS and the warranty has run out, they did offer me a 25% discount but I have been thinking that I might try the steel ones because this will be the third set of trough’s counting the original ones.

If it was a question completely on upfront cost than charbroil would the clear winner, but how long will the next OEM part last? I’ve had the grill since Dec 2009.

As for the grill itself, it is one of the best grills I’ve owned if not the best. I love cooking on it and would buy it again. I’m just not sure how to prevent the issues. I used to keep it covered all the time with the Red cover and started to notice that moister would build up under the cover so now I don’t cover it at all.

Option 1:

Charbroil part and cost:
Trough A – Part #80007880

$ 43.9900 – 25% Discount = $33

I pulled the trigger and went with the Option 2, Music City SS ones. I’ll get them seasoned up this weekend.

Season them real good RAD. The darker they are the better they will perform.

Any recommendations?

I was going wipe them inside and out with some vegie oil and let it burn on high for about 15 minutes or until the smoke stops, and when they cool do it one more time

I was asked how are the SS Trough's holding up. It's been six or seven months since I got them so I guess an update is in order, also, it's been awhile since I dumped the crud so that is also needed.

Looks pretty good to me. A little surface rust if any at all. I will take this opportunity to re-season them while I have them cleaned. Don't forget to get both sides

Thanks Mike. so far good but only time will tell. I Know Capt Jack had seen some rust but not sure how long after he started using them.

My memory is that Capt Jack did a post on this a while back. If I remember correctly, the SS did not work out as well as first thought.

I have had my RED for about 7 years and have replaced the troughs about every 2 years on the average. I just bought the replacement troughs from Char-broil after reading Capt Jack's post. I did NOT get a discount.

The advice was to spray down the toughs with canola oil EACH time---too much hassle for me.

I am OK spending about a $100 every two years or so to keep this great grill going.

RAD, the SS pan fails in the corner seam between the bottom and the side
where mine failed
I got 18 months out of the steel CB pan
and 12 months out of the SS
I bought another plain steel one from CB last time, 1/2 the price

BUT!!!!

my nephew just bought a plain Jane CharBroil "Classic" 4 burner gasser for $200 at HD
and called Brad and ordered 5 panels of Grill Grates  ;D

I'm not going to spend any more money on my RED
even though I already bought GrillGrates for it




If you spend $59/year on parts it's a cheap cooking machine!

I don't have the GG yet. But I now CaptJack does and loves them.
