Backlit Thermapen
« Reply #-1 on: June 01, 2013, 10:56:02 AM »
Thermoworks has announced a backlit Thermapen. I made that suggestion to them more than a year ago (and I'm sure hundreds of other did also).

But is it worth $30 more than the traditional Termapen?

Everyone here loves the Maverick 732 - right??? LOOK at the the Maverick PT-100BBQ......

AND...It comes in ONE color - the only one that counts - which is fast as you will ever need.... ;D

What's the fun of a back-lit thermapen?  I've got my regular one and the little flashlight that I hold in my teeth while I cook overnight.  ;D

Last year (2012) when I was cooking at "The Jack" a group of people from Thermapen were walking around asking questions about what would you like to see next from Thermapen. I replied a lighted version. They said that was the most requested feature. Guess they listened to the competitors at the Jack.

And apparently the Maverick folks had already heard you a year before, and for less money Art! :D :D :D :D

It is hilarious to me - this "Thermapen cult"....when everyone loves the Maverick 732 - but they don't even want to hear about the Maverick Pro 100, which has a LARGE , backlit display - again, for less money...and it uses a commonly available battery ( AAA ). Just sayin'.... :D :D :D

I have nothing against Thermapen, I am just impressed/confounded why people think that is their only good option. It is great that we have choices I suppose ;D

As a back up to my MAK probe I like the Theroworks product.

http://www.thermoworks.com/products/handheld/TW8060.html

I hope MAK will incorporate the K thermocouple into Thier lower end 1 and 2 Star units.

I know that MAK uses a different probe currently than in the 1st generation of  their 2 Stars....

Tell us about these probes from Thermoworks...What do you like about them vs the MAK probes? I know there are 2 different types of probes from MAK. I ordered the "armored" ones for more durability at higher temps.
