Have the dial at lowest setting even. This lil guy gets hot fast.

Yes that grill gets real hot. I use one on my Big Easy and it hits over 500F without a lid.

Not much of a curve but you do need to get use to the temps.

Nice looking brats - looks like a good choice.

Does the burn-in of the grates indicate the heat pattern? Have you tried an IR gun to see the variations? Would be interesting for planning cooks - e.g. moving food around to let it get exposed to the high heat then sit at lower heat as other parts grill. Just looks like the pattern could be a clue.
