Has anybody experimented with getting the Pit Barrel Cooker down to 150*? I'd like to try and make bacon.

TIA!

I really doubt you can do that without some major modification? The PBC is just not designed to do that.

The PBC is a power cooker. You are best off finding another unit if you wish to cook at 150.......

Yeah...I am with muebe in that...It is a direct cooker in that the heat is going to rise directly from the coals to the cooking surface/cooking hooks.

But- I would ask that question of Noah and Amber int eh Pit Barrel Cooker Section.

I'd get a Bradley or Master Built before trying to get a PBC down that low

Tommy without an appropriate mod suggestion?  That's as close to the end of the free world as I ever want to get.

How about using an A-Maze-N Smoker instead of charcoal for heat? Might also have to put it in the sun to add a few degrees.

That was what I was going to say... put it in the sun in Texas in August.  You've got 150 internal no problem.  :D

Are you saying that I could use my 150 degree attic in Texas to make bacon?

I didn't say it couldn't be done, I just said I'd get a Bradley or Master Built before trying.

What I should have said was I don't own one can't tell you how to do it till I get one then I will mod it to cook at 150 :)   'cause you know I would try it ;)

You could always disable the smoke alarm and give it a shot.  Be careful, though; there might be a Darwin Award in there somewhere.

I think I have earned several of those Darwin Awards in my lifetime.
