Ordered a Yoder...
« Reply #-1 on: October 15, 2013, 07:09:59 AM »
I've done a LOT of reading and thinking about this and decided to get a YS640.   ;D  I appreciate all the info the pellet smoker owners here have shared. Just ordered it last Thursday so I have a little time to anticipate the fun (and figure out how to get that beast up on the deck).

Pics and more coming soon...

Congratulations on your new purchase. You will enjoy the Yoder and this process of smoking food especially long slow cooks.

Congrats on the new smoker.

Be nice see a actual un-crating and how it's put together.

More important Bacon has to be the first cook.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I have to agree that (from what I read) it should be the last smoker I need (as if I 'need' this one).

*bbqchef - don't know if I can be patient enough to wait 'till all of them get off work... I'm hoping the delivery guys can be bribed!

*CDN Smoker - I'll do my best to remember to take pics of the uncrating. I have seen a video that touched on the unpacking, but haven't found any detailed pics.
And as for the break-in, the wife doesn't want to 'waste' all that bacon and suggested we use fatback since it's a lot cheaper. I told her that it wouldn't ever go to waste, but she was way ahead of me and said I don't need to be eating that much bacon. She's right, of course. I'm thinking she may be on to something since it's the fat and not the lean meat that renders and coats the inside. Can anybody confirm this? I'd love to hear opinions... I know there are a few out there.

Anyway I am looking forward to it's arrival and will try to share all I can.

PoppyBill:

Do not underestimate the strength it will take to move the Yoder from the pallet to a solid floor. And, to move it to it's location on your patio or porch or where ever. I have the small one, the YS 480 and it also weighs quite a bit. One of the major reasons why I purchased this product is because it comes fully assembled on the pallet. When the FedEx truck pulled up they lowered the unit by lift to the street and moved it into the garage for me. Here's a picture of what you should expect only yours is the larger 640.

Taking off the tie down straps and plastic wrappings is relatively easy. Everything is packed inside under the lid. You can easily put that together or leave this out until you move it to its final location.

Here's a photo of the unit without the packaging sitting on the pallet.

We keep ours on the patio with a cover on it which I suggest that you purchase either from Yoder or Lowes. I got mine at Lowes. Here's a photo of the unit on the patio.

My son and a very sturdy friend of his moved this unit to the patio in the back of the house. Do not expect to roll this over grass, dirt or gravel. They lifted the unit and carried it. Wish I were young like that again.

Think where you want this because it only rolls on smooth surfaces.
