A most excellent looking butt, Mike!  Truly nice bark.

I've always heard great things about using Cherry Dr. Pepper as an injection.  How is the sweetness level?

My wife and I both agree that it was the moistest and most tender pork butt I have cooked. I don’t know if the Dr. Pepper had anything to do with it...

Dr. Pepper does contain phosphoric acid, it makes sense that it would tenderize.

The only real sweetness was the bark Cliff.  Probably from the spritzing and the brown sugar. Not overly sweet, just the right amount
of sweetness if you know what I am trying to say. To me the CDP enhanced the flavor of the pork and I will use it again.

Why not?  I have used original Dr Pepper with a little rub mixed in and shot up a briskie...came out good. I have even shot up a pork butt with sprite....that is good too  :P :P

I have never seen DR P used for cooking.  I have used Cola's and Sprite, before with good results.  The pork looks great.  I am going to try that on my next time out.

In Texas lot's of people use DP instead of coke for most recipes calling for coke, from cake to bbq sauce. :)

Mike, that hunk of Cherry DP injected pork looks delicious. I think that the Hubba Bubba BBQ sauce is made with DP and could be modified with Cherry DP to use as a basting sauce or finishing sauce. Did you try Hubba Bubba at the Gathering? Sabor 4 is right, in Texas DP is more popular than coke. They have a new product, DP10, which is a full flavored diet DP with only 10 calories per 8 oz. and it tastes exactly like regular DP. I don't think they make a cherry DP10, but all you have to do is add a little grenadine for the same effect.
