My Bradley Smoker mods
« Reply #-1 on: December 02, 2011, 11:25:29 PM »
I have a 900w Tempco finned heating element mod and I installed a convection fan from a Fridgidaire oven.

The 900w element mod...

And my convection fan mod...

The 900w heating element allows for quicker temp recovery and more horsepower for those cold nights.

The convection fan allows for even cabinet temps and faster cooking. Also turned my Bradley into a large dehydrator.

NIce shote muebe! Where should one look for those parts to mod like yours?  And - you also put your Braley inside a cabinet of some kind as well?
And - how do you use the Auber controller that you bought? In conjunction with the original controls? or stand alone?

Sorry for all the questions - But I know how impressed I was with what you did to your Bradley - and I believe others will be as well!

Ok so after taking a closer look at my OBS door I found several cracks in the lower plastic panel and there was cracking around the hinge. So I decided to take action!

I removed the door. You can see the cracking on mine. The hinge peg actually fell out after removing the door due to the cracking.

Here is one of the issues. The whole support for the door lies in the upper and lower hinge. The lower hinge attaches to a peg that is installed into the plastic panel. The panel cracks and there goes the door.

So I had a leftover strip of rigid aluminum that was just the right size.

Here is a picture of the aluminum strip/hinge installed to the bottom of the door. The aluminum strip is attached to the plastic piece as a whole. The hinge is actually attached to the aluminum strip and not the plastic panel.

Here is a picture of the door closed.

A view from below with the door open.

And a close up of the hinge.

The door opens and closes just as good as before. It is level and seals fine. My hope is that I have resolved the problems with the plastic between the aluminum bottom panel and the aluminum strip on the bottom of the door ;D

My bottom front plate was cracking and becoming weak as others have. So I removed the plastic one and made my own aluminum one using some leftover parts for my shed floor kit. Since I have the PID I decided to omit the temp slider and install a on/off switch in its place from my old Traeger 3 position thermostat. I had to do some cutting to make it work but I think it looks pretty good. I ran a bead of silicone at the top so liquids will not go inside. It was painted with High-Temp black paint.
