Ceramics
« Reply #-1 on: May 11, 2014, 08:16:40 PM »
Went to a friend's house for a cookout and he was using the B G E as a grill to cook lamb chops. He really knew what he was doing with it.

Started me thinking that  maybe a ceramic cooker could be a special cooker on my patio.  The Primo Oval looks like it has lots of room inside, but so does the B G E XL

Would it hurt anyone's feelings if I used ceramics?  Not that it would make a difference..

Just thinkin'...

Go for it!!  They are a very good cooker.  I have seen a number of them on the BBQ circuit.  I wouldn't use one for competition.  If you ever have an issue moving it, you'll be replacing it.  However, if you are using it on your patio, you won't be making major moves.  It should be relatively safe.

Sparky, looking at your "limited"  list of cookers, pretty easy to tell you need one more thing....

I like the primo oval XL and it has a lot of room. Lump coal is a little different than charcoal and has its own learning curve. For long cooks you will want a controller such as a IQ110 because checking temps gets frustrating every 15 minutes. Hope you get one :)

Well, sir, you'd better quit piddlin' around and go get 'em tomorrow.

Large for cabin - XL for the patio.

I'll even send you a lump of coal to help you get started...

I was against getting a BGE when Marty brought it up a couple of years ago....1, because do we REALLY need another grill or smoker! LOL, and 2, I thought they would be messy and a pain in the but like charcoal.

I WAS WRONG.... this may be the only time I admit it but I will for this.  I LOVE the BGE!!!!!   :o

It is so easy to use, clean, light, cook on..... my only complaint is I wish I had it in a table so that I didn't have to move it out of the garage to cook on it.  I love the Yoder pellet grill but to be honest I would have a VERY hard time choosing between the pellet grill or the BGE if I could only have one.

Honestly, you can't go wrong.  We looked at getting the Primo oval at first but came across a hell of a buy on a BGE so went that route.  No complaints at all!!

I was (am) considering one just because it's so dang chilly in the winter :)

Hopping to come across a used one.

Go for it Jack! I am still pondering whether to get one or not. I almost pulled the trigger on
the Primo XL before I bought the Grid Iron. The only thing that stopped me at the time was
the weight of that thing. It is heavy, but so are all of the ceramic cookers.

The people in the really cold climates would really benefit from a ceramic cooker and their heat retention.

Very long cook times on one load of coal.

My only concern with them is that they can be very heavy and fragile.
