First cook with Blazin Smoker Box
« Reply #-1 on: May 25, 2014, 01:37:27 AM »
A couple of days ago I posted "New Contraption"  I had purchased a Blazin Smoker Box from Blazin Grill Works.  Today was break-in day.  We had some family in town for Memorial Day weekend and the all wanted smoked chicken.

I did not need the full burn that the box provides (5 - 6 hours with the full 2.5 lbs of pellets it holds) so I filled the box about 2/3 with foil to minimize the pellets and control smoke time and lit it up with the torch

Seasoned up chicken - half with Weber Herb and Garlic and half with Mc Cormick's Mojito Lime

Put the chicken on at 325 with the smoker box rolling blue smoke

The cook took an hour forty minutes at 325 degrees.  I pulled the chicken off the grill at 170 degrees (I don't take chances with chicken so I don't pull it at 165)

I let it rest about 20 mins before cutting it up

My bride made up an awesome romaine salad with honey crisp apple and pear chunks with a balsamic dressing and served watermelon.

I was very pleased with the performance and ease of use of the smoker box.  It worked great.  I am getting the itch to try a brisket.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone and a special thanks to all of you and your family members who have sacrificed and served to protect our freedom!

Looks like it works great...And - not to be critical but to compare the other "similar" device on the market:

If you use the Amazen Smoker Tube, you can place it under your drip pan - on the floor of the grill - an not lose any of your grill space. I consistently get a 6 hour burn with a full 18" Amazen Tube.

Hey HOS - yes I did get the additional smoke flavor. I was a bit nervous during the cook because the smoke output was high that the smoke may have been too strong but it was just what I was hoping to achieve.

Hi Tee - That is the only con I would place on this box is that it does take up some grill space although it is rare for me that it would become an issue as there are only two of us at home these days. I cooked for ten yesterday and still had some available grill space. Thanks for the feedback.  :)
