For years I have used Weber fire starters. They work well and can be lit easily on a windy day. They are advertised as non-toxic, to me an important factor. But i've always had an issue with the chemically odor they have when lit, and the ash left is the same size as the cube was before being lit. Sometimes when the chimney is dumped into the grill, that ash cube falls in as well and harmful or not....it troubles me. So I have switched this season and am now using Rutland Safe Lite Fire Starters. They light easily, but not as well in the wind as Weber's product. They burn longer and cleaner. Are also non-toxic, but don't have a chemical smell. They are simply recycled wood chips, paper and wax. They burn down to an indistinguishable ash. And the price is the kicker! Weber's starters are 24 @ $9.95 coming out to about .41 each. Rutland's starters are 144 @ $21.29 coming out to about .15 each! A better product IMO, at a better price!
