Title: Vent hole orientation
Post by: rcrabb22 on July 10, 2016, 11:37:54 AM
I have a simple question.  Does it matter where the vent hole is positioned in relation to wind direction?

I would think so on any cooker. I remember watching Ben Lang turn one of his 1500 dollar off-sets against the wind.

I have turned mine away from heavier winds, light winds not that big of a deal

Absolutely!

As others have eluded to...you want natural drafting from the pit inducting air as it needs...not being forced or rammed as would be the case if the wind is blowing against the intake...

Thanks, I will take vent position vs wind direction into account for future cooks!

I saw the title of this thread and was a bit apprehensive about adding my opinion for fear my monthly site fees would increase into Pappy territory!  ???

O.K. Pappy-Turtle ( see what I did there...you two are now a hyphenated - couple...of buffoons....) keep it up. There exists the capability to encapsulate noxious gasses in a bag and mail them to an un-suspecting victim.... :D :D :D

And uh...Pappy.. YOU are grounded ;D I would ground he Turtle...but he never gets of the grass anyway ( it's a Hawaiian thing... ;) )
