Title: Meat Thermometer
Post by: cappy on August 25, 2017, 09:38:12 AM
Hi, any of you care to recommend a good meat thermometer?  Busted two on Tuesday doing 2 pork shoulders at work and it wasn't pretty.  Everyone loved it but I knew I didn't reach my goal of 205 because I was guessing.

Thanks,
Cappy ???

Not cheap - But buy once cry once ;D Thermoworks are top notch and are a great company to deal with.

Best option is to have both an instant read, like the Thermoworks, and a 2 piece digital leave in place unit that has 2 channels. One channel is for the cooker temp, the other is the meat probe. Look at the current offerings from Maverick. The 732 was their best value for years but it has been up-graded

I have a 732 Mavrick and it works great, I also own a RED Thermoworks instint read which I love

ONE word of advice, wrap the probe wire with foil from the probe to where to lid sits down on it.  The SRG outer top ring gets VERY HOT and I have lost a few wires by not doing this  :(   But I learned  ;)

Altough this is not a reg SRG (it's my charcoal SRG) but it shows where to wrap the foil on the wire

I have a Thermapen MK4 & a Thermoworks Smoke.
I highly recommend both.
