Title: A new build with my GMG . First test was a success(more pix )
Post by: africanmeat on October 23, 2015, 01:39:20 PM
We do a lot of BBQ at work . the GMG doesn't have enough room for ribs and it is to short for sausages .
we decided to modify it .
cut the top of the smoker .
build a smoking box out of 1mm mild steel .insulator and the inside stainless steel .
3 racks and 3 bars to hang the sausages . a chimney with a damper . bolted it and put a heat sealer . it will dry till Monday .
on Monday i will do a heat   test  .
will keep you posted .

Nice!!!

Now you'll need to fab an extension to the pellet hopper....    That's the only beef I have with my GMG.

That is one heck of a mod Ahron - nice job.

Not being real familiar with the GMG, did you need to reinforce the legs or will the stock legs hold up under the added weight and higher center of gravity?

At this stage without the weight of the meat it looks ok . but i will keep my eyes on it . or i will just reinforce the legs.

So the first test went well .
first i set the temperature to 230 f (110c)
i put my Thermometer in the middle shelf and i got 237f(114) .
next i set the heat to 293f (145c) the thermometer showed 293f(145c)
i gave it 2 hours to burn and after 2 hours at 293f(145c) i got 298f(148c)
the box was not hot on the outside so the isolation worked well .
i just think that i will have to add a smoke generator .
i will have to test it with some ribs when i will be back from vegas in the mid november . added a small touch as it is my first prototype with GMG .
i think i will send them a photo . ;) :D ;D
The legs are holding ok as it is not so heavy .

Ahron, that is one nice modification to the Green Mountain cooker.

I would like to ask you to put this information and pictures up on the Pelletheads.com forum on the Green Mountain page and you can find it here:   http://pelletheads.com/index.php?board=40.0

The Green Mountain folks monitor this forum along with many of the Green Mountain owners. I think these folks would love to see this well thought out modification.
