Title: Tri-Tip
Post by: Bluecham on June 09, 2022, 08:35:29 PM
Threw a seasoned up tri tip on the SRG to get a good sear. Brought it to 135°then finished off in the cast iron with mushrooms and onions and a raspberry vinegar glaze. Came out great! Also did potatoes while the tip was cooking. Turned them into mashed potatoes for the final meal. That looks like a meal that Marcia and I would love.  Nice goin'.

Did the internal temperature climb much from 135° when you finished it in the cast iron?

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a cook but I can follow a recipe.  May I impose upon you to post a S×S recipe in the appropriate section?

Thank you! I brought the temp to medium well in the cast iron(how my wife likes it). I would have left it at 135°.

I rubbed the meat with garlic cloves then salt and pepper. I scored the meat and buried garlic sporadically throughout. Then placed fat side down on SRG in high heat. Left it until a nice sear was present. While this was cooking I had 5 potatoes in the chamber for mashed potatoes.

Meanwhile I cut up 3 onions and a package of mushrooms with more chopped garlic and sautéed in the cast iron pan on my propane grill.

After I flipped and seared the tri tip I placed it in the skillet and poured 1/4 cup raspberry vinegar in and sautéed until temp. I then removed it and let it sit covered while I made the mashed potatoes.

Overall it was great. A few notes: 1. As mentioned I like a medium rare piece of meat. 2. I should have dumped the water from sautéing the veggies before adding the meat. 3. Should have trimmed the fat a bit more.

Thanx for the S×S.  It's in my recipe file and set at high priority.

The simple act of recipe posting has an ongoing effect.  The members here who have posted their recipes rather than just saying, "Here's what I cooked" have enriched my life and made me a bit of a family celebrity.  I probably don't adequately thank them.

That does look great.
I have one in the freezer that needs my attention.
Yours may have inspired me to address it. :)
