I assume it is called infrared because it is radiant heat. Whether it is infrared or not, this is an excellent electric smoker.

This is my "mystery smoker." I didn't realize that they had commercialized it. I had the pleasure of being one of the early testers of this unit and have really enjoyed using it. In fact, I tend to do MUCH more smoking than I ever did before getting this thing.

I had the original Char-Broil electric smoker - gave it to my brother. I had a WSM - gave it to my other brother.

Yes, I am lazy - I like to set the temp, add the wood, a water pan, food on the Bradley rack - and set the timer.

Yes, I dream of the romance and involvement with a stick burner - I really do. I also recognize that with my family, job, (and laziness) it just ain't happening right now - maybe later. Again as my Australian friend says - "It's horses for courses......."

Everyone will make the best choices for themselves. All I will say here is, IF you are looking for a solid, reliable, easy to use electric smoker at a good price - check this one out.
You can't catch a fish if you don't get a line wet...
Pit Barrel Cooker, Char Broil Electric Smoker, Charbroil Prototype Kettleman, Char Broil 500X, Blackstone Flat Top, Char-Broil SRG, Weber Performer, ANOVA sous vide device, Lodge Hibachi, Discada, Chimenea, fire pit, hunk of pink salt...

Funny thing is you can buy the SRG on the charbroil site but they never heard of the infrared smoker?

Went on the charbroil site for more details and I can't even find it and when I ask the person over the chat he never heard of the cooker.  Really the guys that are there to help never heard of their new cookers??

What gives with them?
