Coffee and BBQ
« Reply #-1 on: July 18, 2016, 06:06:23 PM »
So I saw an article that coffee can be used to clean grill grates so I figured I'd try it on my SRG.  It was hard making coffee knowing I was not able to drink it but I survived...

I soaked them for a minimum 1hr, then sprayed down and wiped them off.  In all,  I was impressed with the results... It did not help my basket too well which has caked on grime,  but did good on all the grates.

Seriously - that is an interesting use for coffee.

When I was a mechanic a customer came in with a vehicle that had brand new tires on them. He asked us if while we were servicing it we could remove the blue protective coating on the white walls. I guess whoever installed them forgot.

Well me and the other guys tried everything. From soapy hot water to brake kleen. Those who have experience with brake kleen know how good it is at removing stuff.

My boss comes out and asked us what we were doing. After a quick explanation to him he then took out a clean rag, dipped it into his black coffee and to my amazement he wiped away the blue protectant without effort.

After that I realized the cleaning prowess of coffee :D

Definately going to try this, may have to wait until Judy is gone for the day so she doesn't fight me for the coffee.

I was able to justify decaf to my wife...  Anything otherwise would have caused more issues than a clean grill is worth! I even brewed the same batch twice so as to conserve!
