Probe wire protection?
« Reply #-1 on: August 30, 2016, 08:19:28 PM »
Any suggestions for how to protect the wire for a thermometer probe (to monitor internal temp)? I have been just wedging in a ball of foil when closing the lid, but they always fall out when I open it. Over the weekend the ball slipped a little and the lid ended up closing on the wire so that's dead now.

I've thought about just drilling a hole, but I don't think treading the probe through a hold in a blazing hot grill every time would be a good solution.

Yes foil will work. Use heavy duty.

That's all it takes? I thought the lid would pinch the cable too much. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

The lid is still gonna pinch it. I think the others thought you were protecting it from heat...  Drill a hole in the base under the lid.  Then it doesn't have to move when you open it.
Or if the cable is long enough drill on the hinge side so the movement will be much less.

I have a rotisserie slot on my last two grills I can pass the cable through
