Just joined had a few questions about the Big Easy
« Reply #-1 on: November 07, 2016, 05:46:43 PM »
Hello I am new to the forum, I just ordered a SRG and notice I could get the new Wi-Fi Big Easy for less money than I paid local is the propane better than the electric I would imagine specially for grilling the propane will get hotter? Or is it better just to have the convenience because there's not much difference between the two models

Would you say they are both equally good at grilling?

Do they both get equally as hot, I would imagine the propane would be a lot better than the electric at grilling? The electric would be a lot more convenient for me but it would have to be very equal to the propane especially as used has a grill

Hi and welcome to the forum.    The SRG is an outstanding cooker because it does smoking, roasting and grilling so well where the BEESR does a great job at roasting and smoking,  grilling not as good.

Now with GrillGrates it will grill but the SRG does a better job and larger cooking surface.    Same with the cooking chamber it's larger and will hold a larger turkey or roast

If cooking for 3 + folks most of the time get the SRG, you will need it's larger size.   But the BEESR is an ideal camping cooking and perfect for 2 to 3 people

Thank you that definitely made up my mind.

I noticed you drilled out some holes in your smoker box did that make a huge difference on being able to produce more smoke?

Tommy I've also seen you mention you were able to produce a smoke ring with the SR G how were you able to achieve this?

Any information or help on modifications would be fantastic, I think I will prop open the hood and put some pellets on the bottom around the Tommy ring not sure if that's enough to get a smoke ring

quick question on some confusion I had I read and seen that charbroil recommends closing the lid to have crispy skin during the last 20 minutes of your turkey then I read that when you leave the lid open you get a crispy skin. Basically charbroil recommends always cooking with the lid open and only close to get your desired color and to make it crispy.  anyone have advice on which ones which

Not sure if makes a difference lid open or lid closed. I typically cook with the lid closed because the SRG has a lid and its force of habit for me to cook with the lid closed on every thing else I have.  :D BTW welcome from Wisconsin!

I always ok lid down till just about done then lift the lid to finish.  To me lid down entire cook just does not crisp the skin well.  I also leave the bird in to let I rest 10 mins after I turn it off.

I just seem to get a better bird this way

Besides i never was one to listen to CharBroil anyway ;)
