Title: Working on a Fundraiser
Post by: Cajunate on March 23, 2016, 11:55:42 AM
Ahhhhh............... Lol......
Getting a headache from thinking so hard. Sorry, just need to not really vent or let off steam but release some clutter from my brain.
On March 11, 2016 Louisiana experienced a LOT of flooding from torrential rains and overflowing rivers. About 30 miles from me there was a lot of damage from these waters and one of the victims of the flooding was the St. Joseph Abbey/Seminary. They were not insured for flood and so we(my Knights of Columbus council and my wife's women's group The Daughters of Isabella)are organizing a fundraiser gala to raise funds which will donated to the Abbey where over 130 seminarians reside as well as 32 Benedictine monks who do some awesome work. http://www.saintjosephabbey.com/saint-joseph-abbey/  For example they have a bakery that bakes and distributes loaves of bread to homeless shelters and the needy. Another thing they do is build wooden caskets at reduced costs compared to what funeral homes rob people of. They have an apiary where they raise honey bees and sell the honey in the Abbey gift shop as well as making soap for sale as well. Funds go back into the operation of the Abbey as well as education of the seminarians. Our future priests.  I could go on and on with all the good they do.

Our two groups are working on getting big ticket items to use at an auction we're planning at the gala as well as getting sponsors to cover expenses to hold the event. In fact I need to leave shortly to go meet with our pastor to discuss some things.

Alright, the headache is easing off for right now. Gotta run!

Good luck on your fundraiser Cajunate!
Sounds like a most worthy cause! Helping those who help others!
I went to a college prep high school / monastery much like you describe, it was/is run by the Benedictines as well.

I am excited right now! Just got back from checking out another venue and this one is bigger and nicer than what we had in mind which leads to the potential of raising $40,000.00 or more with my head about to explode from ideas flowing. That's a hefty amount compared to what we originally thought about raising. I know our pastor, Archbishop, the Abbot at the Abbey would be as excited as I am to see that come to fruition. Woo hooooooo..........!!!!!!!
