On June 28, I received a call from an administrator from our local hospital. She informed me that because of my letter to them concerning my ER visit on March 4th, my attending nurse, Ted, was going to receive their DAISY award and they wanted me to be there. I was instantly elated! Yes, yes I replied, I will be there! I was so thankful that my story and follow-up letter got this unsung hero the recognition he deserved.

The next day after working out at the hospital, Mrs H, our daughter (a nurse at the hospital) and myself, went to the ER to surprise Ted along with his bosses and co-workers. It was then that they told me that they wanted me to give a bit of a speech to introduce the award for Ted. A little background for those who don't know. On Saturday March 4th Mrs H and myself arrived at the ER with me in full cardiac arrest. Ted took charge of me and kept me focused. Then after 3 or 4 minutes, I flat-lined. I came to hearing Ted firmly state that I had left for awhile, but I was going to be OK. The helicopter will be here in 2 minutes and I will get fixed up so we can have a beer on Aug 28. I said, that's my birthday, Ted said, It's mine too brother!
So he has been keeping track of me and came to visit me when I had a setback, and he texts me weekly to make sure that I'm OK. So we look forward to sharing a beer on our birthdays this year, my 60th and my best birthday ever!
Back to Ted, I'm just so thankful to be able to help honor this man who brought me back to life. Life is very fragile but it can be very magical as well!
Peace!

Great story, sir...
I don't remember the setback, but I'm glad you made it thru.

Great story -- thanks for posting!
Having had a "cardiac event" myself I completely share your feelings about the skill and care of nurses and techs that keep us going when the going gets rocky.

Thank you Mike, Hub, and Jaxon!
It still gives me chills whenever I tell this story of me sharing the same birthday with the guy who saved my life.
And I'm very thankful to be here amongst friends too!
