Title: My new/old MAK2 star...A "re-store-y"
Post by: teesquare on March 10, 2013, 10:32:34 PM
Most of you know that nepas had a MAK 2 Star General that needed a new home, due to space at his new palace on wheels :)

I just could not stand it....so....well...and I SO needed another cooker... :D Anyway -

I sent it back to the fine folks at MAK, because I wanted to up-date old #48 to the current bells and whistles.

So - here she is:

One of the things I had always heard was how much smoke the MAK will produce in smoke mode. Frankly - this picture is not realistic. There was so much smoke - it was really impressive.

Broke it in right....

Then....did some pizza. This is pulled pork, BBQ sauce, dill pickles and cheese. I put some chives on one.

Thin crust...thick toppings! ;D

Thanks guys!
I do love the MAK's construction quality -and the owner experience. Dealing with all the folks at MAK has been truly a pleasure. I will tell you that I am a sucker for the "do-dads". And MAK makes more accessories than anyone else I know of.

And now - they even have a built in WiFi card that allows you to run your grill from anywhere in the world, via the internet - from a smart phone or computer. Now - before you say out loud what I though at first.... ;) :D - think of the possibilities: You forget that you promised the Mrs. an evening on the town.....then you remembered AFTER you put that brisket in the MAK earlier today....
Or - the kid's championship soccer game goes into triple overtime....and you have a turkey in the MAK
Or - you have un-expected company show up, and they want you to take them somewhere in the area to "sight-see".....and you have ribs in the MAK
Or - you get that call - and have to hop a flight for Abu-Dhabi .....and you have a pork shoulder in the MAK....somewhere over the Atlantic you can dial up the MAK, and adjust the temperature. When it is done - text the Mrs. you will be home extra late - ( like a week or 2  ;) ) but her dinner is in the MAK...

I am going to enjoy using this - and I will keep you posted on it!

Thanks for noticing! ACW3 saw the spatula somewhere and picked it up for me. I use it to flip "Longhorn-burgers".... ;D

The Yoder is not forgotten. It is a great pit too - just different than the MAK in some ways. I almost feel guilty having both. ....almost ;D

Thanks squirt, Sam, knuckle and muebe! I doubt the indoor oven will get turned on for a while ;) ;D

Tee, you being an Aggie and all, I just felt that I should warn you to remove the horns before biting down on that "Longhorn Burger". Wouldn't want you to loose any teeth (you being an Aggie and all)

Congrats on the new and improved MAK. Rick couldn't have found a better home for it.

Wow, it looks like they even refinished it with the new Silver Vein powder coat!

I am thrilled for both you and the fact that Rick's old grill found a new home.

I can atest to Tee being driven crazy while waiting for his "new/old MAK being worked on.  Everytime we talked, from the time it left his hands to it finally bewing returned, he was champing at the bit about it.  Just before Bob got ready to ship it back, I received multiple calls about which options he should go ahead and order.  Rick received the same multiple phone calls also.  Apparently Rick and I are on the same wave length.  We each gave him the same answers about wehich options to include.  Did he listen to us?  Of course not!!

I have already asked him the obvious question since he has so many toys on his deck.  "When are you going to build your outdoor kitchen?"  Actually, he has been giving that some thought.  Only time will tell.
