Title: Tell me about A-MAZE-N
Post by: Ka Honu on July 11, 2013, 05:10:09 PM
Thinking about buying one to use primarily with pellets (not sawdust) on my Char-Broil 3-burner RED.  Questions for you experienced users:

     - Tube or maze? Why?

     - Pellet choice?  Remember I live out here where free shipping is a must.  The only ones I see reasonably priced on Amazon are Traeger and Lumber Jack.

     - What else do I need?  I'm assuming a propane torch is required for lighting but, if not, let me know.

     - Other comments, suggestions, etc.

Mahalo plenty.

I have purchased products from A-MAZN-Products. I actually have both the 12 inch tube and the maze (5 x 8). The tube will provide smoke for about 4 to 6 hours and the maze will last a good 10 hours from my experience. I purchase the flavored pellets from the same company, but there are many different sources for pellets. The purpose is to increment the smoke within the pellet smoker as the use of the pellets as a fuel source may not generate sufficient smoke for someone's taste.

You are correct: I use a blow torch to start the pellets. I also use a blow torch to start my charcoal fires as well.

Other than flavored pellets, a tray or tube, and a blow torch, I cannot think of anything else you will need.

Occassionally, Todd, the owner, will have specials where you can have 10 to 20 per cent off. He did this on Memorial Day, Father's Day, and, I think that he had one on the 4th of July. So that will be a little savings. He also has other accessories such as the Maverick ET-732 for $59.99 and will ship for free. When he had the 20 per cent off for father's day, I purchased a second one for $47.00. He is a very good guy, call him and ask him for advice, or email him and he will get back to as soon as he can within a day or two. He stands behind his products and provides excellent customer service.

Hope this helps.

I have both a tube pellet & maze sawdust.
Maze lasts much longer, easier to light, easier to vary time time of burn.
Tube pellet put out more smoke.

I have the Maze and have never been able to keep the pellets lit for very long - even after starting 'em for 10 - 15 minutes...very aggravating.

Uncle Dee told me to use sawdust in the maze and use pellets in the Tube.
Now what do I do?  I don't have the sawdust for the maze and I don't have a tube for all my pellets.

DANG!!!

Jaxon get the pellets wet then let them dry.... You will have sawdust ;)

Turtle I only have the tube but I can tell you that it works really well. The key is getting it lit properly.

I use a torch to get them on fire at the end and let it burn for 10 minutes before blowing out the flame. No problems with the tube staying lit in the pellet grill so a gasser should not be a probem.

I use em all in different smoker. The square i like for my Bradley and small grenade for my other grills.

I light with a propane torch (get at Lowes like $20) Trick is to light and let the end pellets flame real good then blow out when in the smoker/grill

I got both and both work just fine.  I like the tube smoker better to be honest
