Florida Style BBQ
« Reply #-1 on: January 05, 2015, 05:05:09 PM »
Here is the direct response from Unknown BBQ to answer the question: What in the heck is Florida Style BBQ?

Hi Scott,

While you have different flavor profiles from region to region, we at Team Unknown BBQ say "Florida Style BBQ" refering more to the area and conditions we cook in. See as follows: "Florida Style BBQ" is cooking in a Humid Sub-Tropic Climate in the midst of Alligators,Water Moccasins,Florida Panters,Rhesus Monkeys,Africanized Bees,Hurricanes,Burmese Pythons,Stingrays,Rattlesnakes,Ferel Pigs,Sinkholes,Sharks,Fireants,Black Widows,Jelly Fish,Mosquitoes,Coral Snakes,Lightning,Rouge Waves,Wild Fires,Black Bears,The Swamp Cabbage Man, and The Skunk Ape. Sorry for the lengthy response but these are the day to day dangers we deal with to share our BBQ lifestyle. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jason Whitcomb

I am guessing that they do not have a regional style...or he did not take the question seriously huh?

No problem.....it just seems that every other region that claims a style or styles of BBQ can at least explain what that/those are....

I suppose them not being able to define their BBQ style - well it sort of explains the name "Unknown BBQ".... ;)

I think they don't have a specific style for their region. I know one thing, on their facebook site, they have some of the best looking Que I have ever seen.

Yes - they do. I am guessing the Florida BBQ is kind of an amalgam of various styles. And - it may also be that there are states or regions that do not have a "style" of BBQ. Doesn't matter...if it is good I LIKE IT! ;D

I don't know about their style, but if you're ever in the St. Augustine area, Mojo's is the place to go.

I've eaten at both the Old Town and Flemming Island locations.  Both were good and provided plenty of leftovers ! ! !

I understand what they are dealing with, I have to deal with it everyday I cook. Unless you're in the think you wouldn't understand. Florida is a dangerous place to Q. I feel that that I take my life in my hands every time I cook outdoors.  :o

Latest response from Unknown BBQ

Thanks Scott. We take our bbq very serious but we also like to have a good time. Hope I don't get any hate mail for the funny response. LOL Thanks for spreading the BBQ word. If you need anything else just let me know

Unknown BBQ has been making noise in comps and their grub (check em out on facebook) is some of the best looking you will see. If they ever compete out on the left coast, I will be the first one over to meet these guys (and hopefully get a bite or two of their Florida Style BBQ)
