Hmmm - deja vue all over again. I seem to remember the last time you downsized,it appeared to me that you ended up with more new stuff than the old stuff that you gave/sold/threw out. Of course that could just have been my perspective.  ;D ;D ;D

and just to complicate things....GMG is also coming out with a tailgator pellet cooker. Rollout has been delayed a couple of times. Apparently they want to get it right the first time. Should be out just about anytime.
I've seen a couple of prototypes and I'm anxious to see the one that hits the market. Would like to have one for the motorhome.
Everyone is good at something....
I just happen to be a good bad example.

First, I wouldn't recommend the Traeger PTG period!

If you can wait, this might be a good bet for a RV or Tailgate pellet cooker.

Like you Rick I wanted a pellet smoker-grill for my RV.  So last Summer I started looking for one.  Found all the units you've found and they were either "vaporware" (software or hardware that is announced publicly and actively promoted by a vendor even though it does not yet exist) or too large & expensive for my storage challenged RV.

Spoke with MAK last July and learned that a tailgate unit is on their To-Do list but would not be available in the near future.  About that time GMG introduced their prototype.  For whatever reason, it's not available yet and an official release date is unknown.  So, I figured I was out of luck for a while!

Then muebe bought the new Traeger PTG and modified it with an Auber PID.  He documented the PTG on this forum and others.  Looked into the PTG and liked the weight (43 lbs) and the size was ideal for my RV storage.  Traeger had a promotional sale for $250 and I decided to get one.

However, being spoiled by the MAK Pellet Boss controller I quickly learned the shortfalls of the PTG's controller.  After extensive tests using the Traeger 3-position switch, the Traeger digital controller (tech support send me a free controller), and the Ortech TR-100 digital controller (Ortech refunded my $$) I was questioning my decision to get the PTG.  'Old Dave' and I were corresponding cause he also bought a PTG and was experiencing the same issues with flameouts at lower temps and large temperature swings.  Hence his suggestion NOT to buy a PTG.  IMHO I agree with Dave unless you're willing to install an Auber PID and RTD (< $100).

I've documented on this forum and others my trials and tribulations with the PID modification.  Unlike muebe I was never able to tame the PTG using the "PID mode".  I did however decide to use the "Manual Mode" with great success.  It just takes more hands on but the results are wonderful!!  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions with what I did.

Here are some examples of Beef, Chicken, Pork, and Salmon smoked/cooked on my PID modified PTG.  I find that it does a great job and is ideal for our needs at home for the two of us and in the RV.
