I was cooking tonight and had scraps to put in her bowl for treats.. then I realized there weren't any bowls by the refrigerator.

Truly sorry to read of your loss - I know the feeling of getting into the habit of doing something for a loved one, and then realizing with a sinking heart that they are no longer with us.

We've had many dogs during out lives, and one of our most memorable was a chow - best dog we've ever seen.  It is too bad that a dog's lifespan is so much shorter than a human.

Sorry to hear of your dog's passing.  Getting a dog is like getting married.  It teaches you to be less self-centered, to accept sudden, surprising outbursts of affection and to not be upset by a few scratches on your car.

It's hard to be without them.

Day two...

It's just so strange not having her home with me as I work in my office. She was loyal, friendly and very loving.

Abigail Rose will be sorely missed by my bride and me. After having her as a friend for 11 years it's very, very weird without her.

She was a rescue puppy originally from an abandoned litter in Puerto Rico and then brought to Virginia... Later taken to Massachusetts.

We got her from the Sterling (MA) shelter in 2002. It was the best $300 I ever spent.

She had two bad knees (surgically repaired when she was a puppy) and weak hips but was the best friend one would ever want... friendly, extremely gentle and played well with her cousins (my daughter's two dogs).

As my bride said yesterday... "It was her time. It was her decision." She died in her arms in the family room.

But it wasn't my time.

Chef I know and understand what you are going thru.  July 4th I lost my best friend.  My Caviler King Charles died in my arms.  One will always have a hole in the heart for the loss of our pets.  I recently rescued and 3 month old Schnauzer and she has mended my heart. No pet can replace the pet we have lost.  They just allow us to grow a bigger heart.

Enough ain't enough and too much is just about right.

This may be stupid, crazy or delusional but I was trying to catch a nap on the couch and I opened my eyes and saw a vision of Abby at the end of the couch watching over me as she always did.

Tells me she's still with us... protecting us in spirit at least.

May she R.I.P.
