Thanks again for this pz, me and my love made some this weekend to celebrate having the kiddo out of the house for a few days... TOP NOTCH recipe!!! Was a lot smoother than I thought it might be as I was measuring out the bourbon. Strong, but wasn't overwhelming. James said to tell you "Thank you" and that you're a genius.
Made for a perfect cozy date night at home with a movie.
And I had totally forgotten until I was making it.... I have had ONE other home-made eggnog recipe... It was a non-boozy version, when I was about 7 years old. Dad whipped some up, and thought he would make it "healthy" by adding half a bottle of cod liver oil to the mix.
Just to be stubborn and prove that it wasn't as awful as we were all making it out to be, he drank the whole batch himself.
I don't think that even with this much 'fortification' it would have cancelled out that fish taste!!!!
No wonder I'd blocked that out!
(He was the also of the mindset that cod liver oil pills wouldn't deliver the same health benefits as liquid, and would make us take a big tablespoon of it each morning before school. I still remember arguing that I didn't care HOW bloody shiny it would make my hair-- burping up fish oil all day was just NOT WORTH IT!)
This version washed away all of those childhood traumas.
