We now have quite a few members in Ohio and surrounding areas, so I'm looking to see how much interest there would be in a holding a Gathering here in Buckeye country? We could call it the "Buckeye Gathering"
This would be held, towards the end of May or Early June, in the Mohican/Loudonville Area of Ohio. This is an absolutely beautiful mountainous area right on the edge of Amish country. Lots of wildlife & opportunities for some quick sight seeing, Canoeing, horse back riding, and the heart of Amish country is about a 30 minute drive away.
It's not too far away even for some of our southern members to take a drive up.
Renting a cabin big enough for a small group was WAY too pricey, limiting, and only one bathroom/shower to share amongst everyone... NOT a good plan. There is a group camp site, but not everyone likes to camp, and bathroom facilities would be EXTREMELY limited, and primitive.

This somewhat rustic motel sits atop a secluded wooded ridgeline. The rooms aren't fancy, but they are reasonable, clean, and each has it's own shower. Their website has some nice pictures, so be sure to check it out.
I believe during the non-peak season their rates are less than what is shown on the reservation site, and if staying more than one night I believe they give a discount. A group discount could also be a possibility. We can find out those details & exact cost if there's enough interest.
They have an event center which can be rented, BUT they also have a pavilion where we could setup some cookers, at NO extra cost that we are more than welcome to use. Adjacent to the pavilion is a picnic area with fire rings.
My wife and I stayed there for our wedding anniversary and loved it!
So... what I need to know is, is there enough interest in doing a Buckeye Gathering around the end of MAY to warrant me setting this up?

Cliff, I'm also a possibility. Get a hard date and I will start to make plans. Make sure Smokin Don will be there. I sure would like to taste anything he cooks. And make sure Pammie does her maple bacon glazed donuts and her biscuits and gravy and her jalapeno poppers. And make sure that you do the glazed ham that you do so well. I could go on but you get my drift.

I like the idea. I just hate to try to commit to something in that time frame without hard dates. It is right in the middle of the fastpitch softball season (I am the director of our city leagues and president of the high school booster club - makes it difficult to get away at that time.)
The Inn does look very inviting. Might even be some fly fishing opportunities n the area?
I will keep checking this thread - hoping that the dates will work.

I think it might have been more than 13 years. And as Bear Bryant said "if you win one, act like you have been there before".

Yeah, I watched the game but it was in Texas. I know where that is but still not sure about Ohio. Somewhere to the left of Georgia I think.

That is a long haul!
via I-65 N and I-71 N 13 h 4 min 874 miles 12 h 18 min without traffic (According to Google) Over a weekend would be a huge plus...
Southern end of the state would almost be a no brainier .... But the area and hotel look very good.
I'm like Art. The idea of a road trip gets my wheels turning.
If my brother ever gets back out of the hospital in SLC again he may be moving to Cincinnati. That would really seal the deal...

My brother finally got over the last battle with infections. As soon as the doctor cleared him he was flown the Cinncinatti where he will now stay for a long time. (We think)
I plan to go up and see him from time to time and would really enjoy timing a visit around this gathering.

Terry..how nice..we will show you how we do it, Yankeee style..I'm only 2 hours away if you make it up there, it's down there for me. Call me. We can meet in the middle..Daytonish, and Grossie lives near Dayton. He's a nice guy that I met once. He is into his PCB now, but that is fine. Might kidnap Smokin Don if he's up to it. This would be fun..someone is in Ky, forget who now..is that where Tee and Art are going instead of the gathering this year? maybe. Looking forward already. Glad your brother is doing better. I'm game! Oh wait, Google Maps says it's 22h 10min 1,530 miles from Albuquerque...
I'd love to spend a couple of weeks getting there and another couple of weeks getting home. Oh to be independently wealthy...

Looking forward to the Ohio gathering in June, my wife and I plan on being there Fri. and Sat. nights. If nothing drastic happens we will be there. Tee said he was looking forward to some of my cooking. Sorry but I am not good enough to do much cooking. I plan on bringing some snacks and condiments. Here is my list so far so you will all know.
Some of my Cajun crackers, jalapeno cheese summer sausage and old fashioned bung bologna from my butchers Kah’s. Some smoked hot pistachios. Two or three quarts of my Kimchi. A couple bottles of Kah’s BBQ sauce for anyone to try or use. If I get to feeling up to it I may fix something I can just heat up in a Crockpot.
Hope we have a good turnout and will be great to meet you all! Smokin Don
