Title: Air Fryer Need Advice
Post by: Smokin Don on February 13, 2017, 12:26:47 PM
I have not had the best of luck with my air fryer. I have done frozen fast food fries twice and was too crispy and dry, will try less time. I did wings, the chart said 12 minutes for 2 lbs. I sprayed with olive oil and they went in skin side down at 4 minutes in I turned them, checked them at 8 minutes and 12 minutes, I left them in another 2 min. and I didn't think the skin was crispy enough. I am afraid if I go until the skin looks good to me I'll have dried out chicken. I did some frozen cheese sticks last night. My chart said 8 minutes. I sprayed them with olive oil and turned at 4 min. I pulled them at 7 min. They were too dry for me. Any help would be appreciated. I am going to try cauliflower tomorrow, maybe I will have better luck with veggies. If I can get the fries right I will be happy. Don

Dont know if this will help you Don, But i used the recommended cooking chart just a couple of times and have pretty much stopped using it. Cooking on higher heat will equal shorter cooks which should keep thing more moist and will also brown things up.  Like for Chicken I use the highest temp setting which is 400 on the Power Air fryer XL and it is  crispy and moist each time. Hope this helps  :)

Don..what temp are you using? I think your cooking too long..your spraying is fine but not enough time on the wings..I go 10 minutes on one side, turn then another 10 minutes to temp @165º -170º, we like our chicken done. A lot depends on how much you cook at one time too. Way too long on the cheese sticks..3 minutes max on mine. The charts are just a guide, at least that is what I found. good luck . If you nuke the cauli before you air roast it..it come out better..just oil, s&p and go for it.  And what tomcrete say too..I cook mostly on 400º  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

I find that the chart is a very loose guide. I find myself opening and looking frequently. I did wings last night and I did 12 minutes per the chart. Not even close to being done. My wings did not get crispy like I wanted. I had too many wings at one time.
