All I can say is that we had a ton of fun again, Judy had so much fun judging the ribs that she signed up to judge next year before we left the judging area, of course she's hoping to get deserts next year, but at least I know we'll be heading to Paducah next year.

What kind of judges are they looking for?  KCBS certified?  My wife and I are both KCBS certified and would be interested in judging.

Art, it is not a KCBS sanctioned event so KCBS judges are not required.  I would compare it more to a Memphis BBQ Assn event as they do whole hogs and the scoring system is a decimal based system.  No X.0 scores, only X.X scores.  The 3 criteria are flavor, tenderness and overall impression.  Some of the judges like my wife and I are KCBS certified though.

Personally I like the KCBS scoring system better but it's not my competition. :)

We didn't have any certified judges at either of our tables, it was just regular bbq lovers trying to do their best to give a fair judging of some good and bad meat but it was a ton of fun to peek behind the curtain for us amateur's.
