Our little KCBS contest here in Lincolnton, NC still has judge slots and team openings -- June 5 & 6, 2015. Try Hoghappenin.org for forms and details.
Billy Merrill and I will be cooking (Holy Smoke NC) and we'd love to see you if you are around or want to judge us or try to beat us
PM me if you need more info . . .

I have never attended a BBQ competition and I was wondering about the BBQ and other foods that the competition teams cook. Does the crowd at these gatherings have a chance at purchasing the left overs that the teams prepare? It looks to me that when I watch a competition on TV that there is a very small sampling of what the teams have cooked that are actually used for judging. So what happens then with the remaining food and Q?

Most contests include slots for commercial vendors who prepare and sell BBQ and other foods for the crowd. Individual competitors normally don't cook enough for sales, plus local health dept. regs usually require a food license to vend. Sometimes vendors also compete but that varies a lot from contest to contest.
Lots of comps have a "people's choice" where each team does a butt and small samples may be purchased and voted upon -- proceeds go to charity.
As to our leftovers, we feed our friends and families on those

The Sultans will be there as, again, as well. So if you're in the area, please do drop by.
Friday evening is always a fun time.
My only request is that you wait until after 1:30 if you're coming on Saturday as it can be very busy in the morning.
